Effect of compensatory programme on postural muscles in extra-legue ice hockey players

Abstract

Issue of unilateral load effect in sport on the correct body posture and muscle dysbalance genesis is quite well known fact and the consequences of huge overload are common problém that is subsequently solved by rehabilitation clinics. Ice hockey players suffer from various muscle dysbalances, lower back pain and bad posture,what may have significant influence on their performance.

We created a speciál interventional (compensatory) programme on balance tools applied for 8 weeks period in the preparation period of extra league ice hockey players. In every week micro-cycle the players undertook 40-minute period offlowin exercises and another 40 min period of exercises with balance tools (fitball, aerobar, foam-roller and other).

Group: Monitored group was created by professional ice hockey players - A- team HC Liberec. Experimental group of 12 hockey players and control group ofl2 hockey players were chosen randomly.

Methods: Experimental study with the control and experimental group that underwent an intervention programme. 6 tests were chosen to assess the effect of intervention (kneel on the ball with arm abduction, deep squat in one leg, thrusting on one leg in ""flowin ", deep squat, extension test and trunk flexion test). Assessment was made via statistical significance based on single factor analysis of variances (ANOVA) and via percentage.

Results: Based on the results we may conclude that 8- week compensatory program can influence the body posture and the State of core muscles. General results of tested score show statistical significant improvements in the stated tests.

Conclusion: The results of this study point out that in rehabilitation practice with professional sportsmen the minimal period of interventional programme should be longer than 8 weeks. Further findings point out the important cooperation of team coach with a physiotherapist and in better čase also with a rehabilitation doctor (who seems to be unavoidable especially in professional clubs).
