Abstract
Identification of causative agent and correct interpretation of results of antimicrobial susceptibility testing is crucial for adequate anti-infective therapy of infectious disease. In era of increasing resistance of bacteria and yeasts is responsibility of each clinical diagnostic laboratory to use all available diagnostic tools for rapid analysis of clinical samples.
The development of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) devices has revolutionized the routine identification of microorganisms in clinical microbiology laboratories by introducing an easy, rapid, high throughput, low-cost, and efficient identification technique.
