Abstract

The contribution introduces the results of the project. There was carried out cataloguing of special cartographic documents in accord with national and international standards (53,000 unique records).

Thanks to the universality of the collection of the Map Collection it was necessary to create partial methodologies to describe globes, models, atlases, map works, in particular old maps. Methodologies for the description of new and old cartographic materials in RDA were created.

Bibliographic records were created in the Central Catalogue of Charles University in SW Aleph and then they were exported to the GEOBIBLINE database and to the Union Catalogue of the Czech Republic. Metadata were generated from the records to make data accessible digitally.

Massive digitalization was held in external companies and institutions (60,000 maps and pages of atlases). Software for a detection of unknown cartographic projection was created and it was implemented into georeferencer.

Products that can be used according to copyright are made available with the aid of website signpost mapovasbirka.cz. Atlases and maps are published by using metadata open source catalogue Geonetwork.

Another option is through an external link of Charles University Catalogue to the Digital University Repository (48,000 maps). Digital documents are made available and registered in the National Digitalization Registry.

Part of the production is exported to the portal staremapy.cz and Oldmaponline.org (16,000). The maps are georeferenced from the cataloguing, therefore geographic search without previous georeference is possible.

Globes and models are made available as photos with bibliographic description and as 3D models in optimal resolution. There are published full texts and objects in GEOBIBLINE, on the exhibitions and on the portals of cartographers.

Public e-learning courses for the work with old maps and globes are available. The outputs were attended by rich publication activities.
