Abstract
In subtropical latitudes, Holocene climate change is mostly characterized by changes in mean annual rainfall and in its seasonality. This chapter geves a review of present knowledge of this phenomenon and shows how it had influenced past societies.
The second part is mostly focused on actual events over about the last decade.
