Science and Reading Literacy - Mutual Connections and Importance

Abstract

The article deals with the importance of the language mastery - in its written and spoken form - for the optimal development of pupils' science literacy. This theme is coming again to the fore of the science education experts after one decade.

The focus of this contribution is the role and the importance of the reading in the development of scientific literacy; it lists models that will allow developing the reading literacy while teaching scientific subjects. The conclusion summaries existing applications in our teaching and lists their further use.
