Armed Conflicts as a Topic of Geographical Instruction

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2016

Abstract

This article uses the example of Ukraine to explore possibilities for applying the topic of armed conflict in geography instruction. It draws on the Framework Education Programme for grammar schools, according to which geopolitics and centres of tension should be a part of geography instruction.

The proposed structure of a two-hour seminar using freely-available informational (media) sources should serve as inspiration for secondary school teachers. The objective is to encourage students to consider the topic in its broader geographical, societal and historical context.
