Raman spectroscopy : From modest beginnings toward bold space morrows

Abstract

Raman spectroscopy works with nonelastically scattered light that reflects vibrations of molecules. Its history is tied to the technical development of intense monochromatic light sources and of a weak light detection.

In its progression it came from chemical analysis, over geo and material sciences, up to biophysics, biology and practical medicine, and already is heading to the space exploration.
