Mood swings during stay and training in the hypoxic environment

Abstract

Athletes' stays in moderate altitude (1 800-2 200 m ASL) are more common because of participating in the competitions or due to performance improvement. The article provides a summary view of the issues of monitoring emotional states in hypoxic enviroment as possible indicator of athlete's fatigue.

The objective of the article is to create review of published research focused on the issues of sports training in hypoxia enviroment and these research observe mood changes by POMS (Profile of Mood States) questionnaire at the same time. The introduction of the paper is focused on characteristic of this questionnaire and research, which solve the same problem in normoxia.

Systematic review of the research shows, that monitoring of mood states can be used as one of the indicators of fatigue also in hypoxic enviroment. Just limited amount of relevant research were published and for more accurate results it would be suitable to do more research, especially from hypoxic environment.
