Multimedia: a suitable tool for project based education - a survey among Czech, Slovak and German Biology Teachers

Abstract

Multimedia technology is a part of everyday life and having at least basic digital competence relations to many of the 21st century skills, which are important for development of active participation in society of all people (Ala Mutka, 2011). Project based education is suitable to improvement digital competence especially because of the opportunity of teamwork and the necessity of working with written sources (searching, filtering and retrieving information, content creation, respecting the copyrights etc.).

This study reveals the opinions of biology teachers about using multimedia in education. The answers of teachers from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany are compared and the first statistical data gained on the basis of survey are presented in this paper.

The ICT amenities (material background) of the schools are also investigated. The results show positive attitudes to using multimedia as educational support of pre-service as well as in-service teachers.

The national differences are not substantially large.
