Abstract

This study focuses upon the attitudes of Czech biology teachers towards the teaching of human evolution. According to external studies this topic is one of the most controversial in evolutionary biology.

The questionnaire was used to collect data. In total 106 teachers filled up our questionnaire.

Our respondents, both believers and nonbelievers, do not find the topic of human evolution much interesting and do not find the topic much controversial too. But in the question if scientific and theological point of view about human genesis is in harmony or contradiction, there is some difference in the attitudes of believers and nonbelievers.

The believers among biology teachers hold both opinions in the similar frequency, but the nonbelievers hold most often the opinion that scientific and theological point of view about human genesis is in contradiction.
