The paper describes an experiment that was a part of the long-term research ""Developing the culture of solving of mathematics problems in school practice"". The experiment was conducted in 2013.
The research sample consisted of 145 11 to 12 year old pupils. The pupils were given four non-routine problems that can be solved efficiently using experimental heuristic strategies (Systematic experimenting, Guess - check - revise, Introduction of an auxiliary element).
The goal of the experiment was to map the spontaneous choice of a solving strategy in mathematics problems in this particular age group.
