Abstract

The author examines the role of Roman Jakobson, a leading scientific personality in the field of language communication, lingistics and poetics, especially his works which were inspired by the traditions of rhetoric in Russia. The article concentrates on Jakobson's conception of tropes and figures as well as on the problems of ikonicity of language signs.
