Abstract
The article explains different contexts and origins of two terms with a similar meaning - discourse and functional style. In current language use both these terms stand for the meaning "a manner or mode of expression", "a way of putting thoughts into words".
In present-day Czech the word diskurs, diskurz lost its terminological meaning and changed in a trendy signal of erudite speech.
