Abstract
Colonoscopy is the gold standard for imaging the colon and terminal ileum. Currently it plays essential role in the diagnosis and monitoring of neoplasms of the colon and also becomes the method of choice in the treatment of early neoplastic lesions.
Colonoscopy also has a key role in the diagnosis of other colorectal disorders. Indications to colonoscopy can be classified into preventive in patients at average risk for colorectal cancer, dispensary at increased risk, and examinational in symptomatic patients with suspected bowel disease.
