The book focuses on the historical development of a new mathematical discipline of the 20th century, namely general (point-set theoretical) topology. The first part presents the history of fundamental notions and result of topology in proofs of evidence.
The second part of the book looks at two viewpoints: on the one hand, discussion the history of relevant journals and the publications of seminal papers and books, and on the other hand, bried introductions of the major protagonists and their work.
