Abstract
Patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (AF) are at five times higher risk of strike when compared to the general population. Stroke occurring in association with AF has much more frequently fatal consequences, quantified as 20% mortality or permanently disabling deficit when compared to stroke due to other causes.
