A textbook of phonetics and phonology designed for BA and MA students of Spanish philology. It is a completely revised and substantially extended version of the first edition of the book, reflecting the rapid stormy progress of phonetics and phonology in recent years: it shows the present state of the art.
A general introduction is followed by a thorough structural description of Spanish vowels, consonants and suprasegmental features. The theoretical part outlines the most recent phonological conception of the vowel and consonant systems in Spanish.
Due attention is paid to the relationships between sound and spelling. The concluding chapter offers a brief outline of contemporary spelling rules reflecting the recent reform of orthography.
