The study examines the role played by the ancient tradition of mathematical analysis (as described in Pappus's "Collectiones") in Descartes's conception of method. I show that the mentioned tradition is indeed important for understanding the nature of Descartes's method.
I also examine how exactly the Pappian inspiration is at work in Descartes's methodological project and sketch how Descartes integrates the Pappian analysis in his method.
