In the introduction, the chapter reviews the characteristics of human papillomaviruses, their types, and diseases caused by these pathogens. Subsequently, the chapter features the commercially available preventive vaccines and results of clinical trials of these vaccines.
In conclusion, potential benefits of these vaccines are considered for particular diseases causally linked to papillomavirus infection should a mass vaccination program be implemented in the Czech Republic. The estimates were derived from the results of studies conducted in the Czech population.
