Abstract

The book is a commented translation of How Children Learn the Meanings of Words by Paul Bloom. Bloom describes how word meaning is aquired by children.

He argues that the learning of word meanings is the result of interaction of various cognitive and linguistic capacities. Among these capacities is a capacity to understand the goals of other people, capacity to aquire abstract concepts, capacity to understand syntactic structure and other general capacities of memory and learning.
