Abstract

The Introduction to Lexical Issues in L2 Writing looks back at the inspiration for the whole volume, and outlines the diverse research projects involved which all share the research topic of L2 lexis, even though they have grown out of a wide array of disciplinary backgrounds (including lexicology, aplied linguistics, second language acquisition, corpus linguistics, stylistics, discourse analysis, pragmatics, psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics). In addition to the foregoing, it briefly outlines the individual chapters of the volume, which were written by authors coming from various schools of thought and academic backgrounds.

The target language is mostly English, while the subjects'native languages include several language types and families. The authors approach their topics from different perspectives and use diverse research methods, which adds to the multifaceted nature of the volume.

In the final paragraphs the Introduction suggests possible impact of the findings.
