Abstract
This chapter focuses on the provisions for social rights in the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms ("the Charter") and the regulation of social security as part of the social policy within the EU. Next, the characteristics of the social security system in the Czech Republic is described with references to its topical issues; the development of the Czech social security system and its reflection of the developmental trends in Europe will be considered.
The role played by the rule of law in the field of social security will be included.
