Performative Notions and Discourse as a Practice: Research Aspects of the Nationality Question in the Hungary of the Ausgleich

Abstrakt
The chapter explores new avenues in research of the representation of national minorities. It argues for a more nuanced approach, drawing especially on the concept of discourse as developed by Michel Foucault and the theory of representation by Pierre Bourdieu.
The theoretical and methodological suggestions are testet on the case of late 19th century texts and debates on nationalities in Hungarian society.
