The aim of the chapter is to find ways for better understanding of the social complexity of a marginalised urban district in Toulouse. It puts under question the relevancy of the French melting pot theory for that district.
Focusing only on "ethnicity" has been considered too narrow to understand the place; for that reason, the notion of "mixity" (close to "diversity") was applied as well. The article offers a critical and theoretical insight into these two notions.
