In this article I deal with the practical application of the concept of day fines. The results of my findings are that the theory is not followed and there is a great difference between relative amount of (day) fines for wealthy and poor offenders.
Pecuniary punishment has not been accepted as an alternative sanction and administrative support has not been offered to the judges so they could apply it. Case law of Supreme and Constitutional Court, as well as of District courts for Prague 2 and Jeseník are analyzed.
