The Use of Citation Indexes for Presenting University Results

Abstract

It is vital for each university to follow the results and impact of their faculty and researchers in citation indexes. The publication activity of CTU scholars has contributed to the improving rating of the university in the prestigious world's university rankings published by The Times (Times Higher Education Supplement) where the university holds 394th place overall and 171st place in engineering and IT field.

The paper focuses on the comparison of the CTU results both in the two most significant commercial resources for citation analysis and science evaluation in technical fields (Scopus a Web of Science) and in freely available resources (such as Google Scholar). Role of the CTU Central Library in the process of university R&D results evaluation is irreplaceable.

The library provides access to key information resources and follows, analyses and publishes statistical data, and creates citation and comparison analyses. Among the important parameters being monitored by the library are the subject coverage of each source, representation of CTU authors/scholars, authors' rating (h-index), rating of journals where CTU authors publish (impact factor).

The results of the citation impact analysis can be used to promote the university among general public, scholars, and its own academic community. To promote the results of CTU scholars and researchers the Central Library uses modern information tools and services.
