The diplomatic relations between Czechoslovakia and Nicaragua were formed in March 20, 1930. After March 15, 1939 these were interrupted with most of the Central American countries, and after the end of the world conflict the relations were not maintained due to the Cold War and political reasons.

After the victory of the Sandinista Revolution in July 1979, the country suffered a severe military and economic interventionism, and its territory became one of the most significant zones of an ideological conflict. This paper focuses on the period 1979-1989 and the intensive contacts between the countries from eastern bloc and Nicaragua, with a special attention dedicated to the role of Czechoslovakia in their effort to support the survival of the Sandinista Revolution.
