Figural Narration and Modernist Fiction: The Case of Hamsun's Hunger

Abstract

The article explains why modernists often used figural narration, and it argues that the extended use of this technique in Knut Hamsun's novel Hunger (1890) is one of the reasons this work can be regarded as modernist.
