Abstract

In the paper, we investigate estimation of the earth pressure coefficient at rest by means of backanalysis of deformation measurements in underground cavity constructed in overconsolidated clay. The model was simulated using finite element method in 3D.

When compared with our previous investigation, we utilized recently developed hypoplastic model with small strain stiffness anisotropy. Soil anisotropy was shown to influence the backanalysis results significantly.

In addition, we simulated the influence of neighbouring exploratory adit, which also had remarkable effect on predictions. Current analyses indicate K0 =0,81.
