Forming of the New Political Identity : Slovene Writers and the Yugoslav Idea at the beginning of the 20th Century

Abstract

We research Slovene writers in the period of "Moderna" before the First World War and their reception of the Yugoslav idea. Some of the Slovene intelectuals proclaimed Yugoslav idea and also new ilyrismus.

They demanded union of Slovenes with the Croats and they wanted to abandon Slovene language and culture. Some writers were against that: the most provocative was Ivan Cankar - the main gfigure of Slovene moderne, who had some lectures about hat problem.
