Czech conditional conjunctions: a corpus-based study of development tendencies

Abstrakt

The paper presents a case study that quantitatively examines current development tendencies of Czech conditional conjunctions. It is based on large corpora containing complete volumes of major Czech newspapers that ensure reliability of the study.

The results show increasing informality of the newspaper language manifested by the tendency to substitute formal conditional conjunctions by their informal counterparts.
