Abstract
The review shortly presents and characterizes the new handbook Akademická příručka českého jazyka (Academic Vade Mecum on the Czech Language; Academia, Prague 2014, 536 pages), available also in an electronic form on the web: http://prirucka.ujc.cas.cz. This handbook provides explanations about the Czech spelling, morphematics, morphology, word-formation and selectively about the syntax.
It includes mainly the phenomena that people asked about in the past when called the Language Counseling Service of the Czech Language Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The review describes the handbook to the Czech language teachers illustrating some of the selected, useful, interesting, and partial linguistic phenomena and specific examples from each of the thematic areas included in the handbook.
The text of the review is therefore only motivating, and due to the limited size of the journal Český jazyk a literatura does not provide a detailed analysis of the handbook.
