Myth - "reality" - identity: The National Metropolis at a Time of "Return to Europe"

Publication |
2015

Abstract

The book analyses the implications of the overriding post-socialist myth of a return of national metropolises to Europe or the world (for example, Prague, Bratislava, Warsaw, Krakow). At the same time, it examines the problem of an uneven ""return of memory"" in these selected Central European metropolises and the strategies of political manipulation of mental images of the lost (destroyed) ideal city.

In the case of Vienna, it also maps the myth of multiculturalism from the perspective of the protection of minorities.
