Abstract

The aim of this experiment was examination and evaluation of osteointegration of screws made of nano titanium. In total, six nano titanium screws were implanted into the distal femur and proximal tibia of a rabbit under general anesthesia.

The correct position of implants was controlled by using a dental X-ray machine 14 days after the surgery. The rabbit was euthanized after 12 weeks and the femur and tibia were removed.

The position of the screws and bone apposition was checked by taking a series of radiographical images. After bone processing and staining, histological examination was performed and series of microphotographic images were taken.

This experiment determined the extent of osseointegration and the rate of healing of nano titanium implants. We evaluate the osseointegration of implants by measuring of (BIC) %.

The results show that nano titanium implants are excellent at osseointegration and therefore can be a material of choice for implantology.
