Albanian Literature in Italian : Limits and Translation Problems of a "Minor" Language

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2015

Abstract

The paper offers an overview of the situation regarding Albanian literature translated into Italian. The interest of Albanian authors to be translated is enormous, but translation plans are difficult to realise.

Albanian is considered a "minor" language and specialized translators are few. Italian editors interested to publish Albanian literature are not many.

Indirect translations are very frequent. Nearly all novels of the most important Albanian writer Ismail Kadare are translated into Italian through the existing French translations. "Translation criticism" shows objective problems regarding the effects that translated texts have on the readers.
