Case V. M. and others against Belgium (Degrading treatment caused by extreme poverty)

Publication at Faculty of Law |
2016

Abstract

Judgment V. M. and others against Belgium belongs to a series of cases in which the ECHR assessed the compliance of measures taken under the so-called Dublin system with the requirements laid down by the European Convention on Human Rights.

The judgment raises questions particularly in relation to the social aspects of Article 3 of the Convention and in fact it confirms that the conditions of extreme poverty may be degrading treatment within the meaning of Article 3 of the Convention.
