Position of Professional Football Players on the Players' Market in Connection with the ""Deregulation"" of the Licenced Players' Agents

2014

Abstract

According to the announcement made by FIFA following the 64th FIFA Congress (held in Rio de Janeiro in June 2014) the present system of agents is going to be replaced on the basis of amendments to the FIFA Statutes and adoption of the new Regulations on Working with Intermediaries, which will become effective on April 1, 2015. On this basis the registered players' agents will no longer be part of the football environment and instead the intermediaries will take up their job.

The system of regulation of the intermediaries is going to bring several new features into the sphere of professional representation of football players and clubs during negotiations of (employment) agreements or transfer agreements. The issues connected to this change are discussed in the chapter.
