Abstract

The publication is conceived as a textbook, which presents already the 4th updated and expanded edition. The book is intended mainly for medical students and young doctors, as well as for other helping professions who work in health care or social services.

The text is divided into 22 chapters and numerous subsections. The first part covers the terminology of medical ethics, which is followed by the history of particularly the Czech medical ethics, basic and modern codes of ethics, in particular the Convention on Biomedicine.

Other ethical topics are illustrative and include e.g. the right to health information, the rights of woman and child, protection of personal data, ethical problems in experimental medicine and laboratory medicine, and ethical problems in transplantation. The publication covers also ethical problems in geriatrics and at the end of life as well as the most common mistakes, myths and misconceptions in medical ethics.
