News in Vaccinology - vaccines from plants, plants with antimicrobial effects

Publication |
2015

Abstract

Preparation of vaccines in plants is based on the idea coming from the end of the last century. The great advantage is no contamination of the vaccines by mammalian toxins and pathogens.

For first experiments were used tobacco plants and petunias. The foreign DNA is introduced into the plant genome and the resulting transgenic plants produce this DNA.

Dozens of plant species were modified by this way until nowadays. It can be used for the oral immunization, which simplifies and cheapens immunization programs, especially for third world countries
