Abstract

This contribution focuses on reading comprehension of students with cochlear implant in the Czech Republic. In order to survey reading comprehension of students with cochlear implant when transitioning from primary to secondary schools for students with hearing impairment we used the non-verbal Kaufmann Test 16 Reading Comprehension from the Assessment Battery K-ABC.

Average age of analysed students was 12,5 years. Testing results of this subtest were analysed and compared with the results of previous researches of the authors as well as with foreign researches.

The analysis suggested that two thirds of students with cochlear implant show a deficit in comparison with their hearing peers. Besides, they showed a delay between their chronological age and developmental age in the area of reading of - 2,4 years.

These findings are equivalent to previous researches which point out the necessity of seeking new procedures for developing language competences in this group of students.
