Abstract
The article presents the construction of approximation of the given point cloud using a triangle mesh which can be used in the process of surface reconstruction. Surface representation of reconstructed object is created with incremental construction of triangle mesh based on existing algorithm.
This known triangle mesh construction is further improved. The proposed algorithm is applied to computer generated point sets and to real-world data obtained from measurements of real surfaces by optical, laser and contact 3D scanners.
The incremental algorithm is implemented in the modern programming language and interactive environment of MATLAB.
