The first representation of the male circumcision

Abstract

The first known representation of the male circumcision comes from the funerary temple of the 5th dynasty king Djedkare Isesi at Saqqara (cca 2400 BCE). A fragment of limestone relief was found by the Egyptian archaeologist Ahmed Fakhr (in 1951), recently identified by Mohamed Megahed.

The author traces the history of the male cicumcision, while comparing it with the jewish and christian witness of Genesis (17,10-14).
