Teaching Czech in Azerbaijan

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2015

Abstract

The Czech language is regularly taught at the university level in the Republic of Azerbaijan from 1996 at Baku Slavic University as the only university in the country. In October 2010 there was established and opened the Center of the Czech language and culture, primarily thanks to the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Baku, Charles University and the Baku Slavic university itself.

Currently, the Czech language can be studied at two faculties of this university - at the Faculty of Translation and at the Faculty of Regional studies; most of the students there complete a bachelor's degree. The paper brings some characteristics of the teaching of the Czech language in terms of language, culturally and historically significantly different from Czech schools.
