Abstract

Lung lesions detected on chest radiographs or, more frequently, CT scans of at-risk individuals are an increasingly frequent problém dealt with by practitioners of many spceialies. It is generally known that 95% of them are benign.

Since health professionals have been concerned that the proces may be malignant, various types of investigations are indicated. Most frequently, threy include repeated CT scans, PET/CT scan or biopsie of the lesions: surgeons have been asked for intervention as well.

Many recommendations on how to proceed have been published worldwide and many algorithms have been verified in clinical studies. Their results are summarized in the article with the aim of proposing our own algorithm (guideline) for examination and measures in at-risk persons with detected lung lesions of unknown etiology.
