The article deals with the acquisition of Slovak as an L2 in the Romani community in Gav. It focuses on the input of Slovak in pre-school age, role of parents in the acquisition process, a key part of the article describes active role of children in the acquisition of Slovak, or communication in Slovak within children peer groups.
This takes place during "playing the books", which a local idiom for playing the school. Within this role-play children use their knowledge of Slovak actively to mark the location and ethnicity of teachers.
