Abstract
The novel ""Wojna polsko-ruska pod flagą biało-czerwoną"", published in 2002, is the literary debut of (at the time) 18 year old D. Masłowska, also referred to as the enfante terrible of Polish literature.
The novel was a scandal for some, but an iconic book of a generation for others. It was also nominated for the most important Polish literary award, Nike, in 2003.
It is written in the form of a monologue. The main character, Silni, represents the world of ""dresiarzy"".
Their language, which is also used in the whole novel, is a lower variation of Polish language, and is filled with profanity. The novel has been translated into 11 languages, including the Slovak language.
The author of the Slovak translation is Tomáš Horváth, a writer of the ""Bratislava literary underworld"". The subject of the article is the translation of ""Wojna polsko-ruska pod flagą białą-czerwoną"" (Slovak title ""Sneh a krv""), but limited to profanity.
The original version has more than enough of it, because it is an important part of the main character's language, so it is also important for the novel, which is the result of a variety of styles. The author explains how the translator has helped (or hasn't helped) himself with translating the profanity, and to what extent he has taken the cultural factors and communication usages of these language resources into account.
