This is a commentary to the original paper in important scientific journal. On-line haemodiafiltration represents a novel approach to the extracorporeal elimination in chronic kidney failure.
A recent analysis confirmed the reduction of mortality compared to haemodialysis, but only if the convective volume is high (higher than 23 l). In the future, this volume should be normalized, probably with respect to body surface area
