Abstract

The monography is designed as a second part of a phoniatric trilogy Voice - Hearing - Speech. The aim of the authors team is to encompass the full breadth of the contemporary conception of phoniatrics and audiology.

The book is arranged according to the common practice to general and special part. The authors team has attempted to summarize the latest knowledge on the field of audiology and hearing prosthetics, in order to bring the readers primarily practical informations and insight to the audiology from the phoniatric point of view.

This concept pervades the book and is a guideline for the division into individual chapters. The hearing disorders are accented from the audiology viewpoint (function handicap), rather than etiological aspect (organ lesion).

In the therapeutic approach to the hearing impairment, a stress is made to corrective rehabilitation; medical and surgical treatment of hearing disorders is mentioned in overview, in the context of a hearing aid correction.
