War and Its Representation in Prose of Richard Weiner

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2015

Abstract

From the broader viewpoint of the aesthetics of war and the related issues of perception and representation, language and imagination, the paper analyses selected short stories by R. Weiner (Kostajnik and Ztřeštěné ticho) and K. Čapek (Hora).

Their interpretation is guided by the question of history and economicy of sense-perception, as reflecting the changes to which human perception is subjected by the military apparatus (""the siege of hearing""), and by the question of the ""way of interiority"", i.e. the processes of metaphorization and allegorization of the war events (""the siege of the mountain"")
