Abstract
The text deals with the general problem of translating Czech puns into foreign languages. The text is based on two particular examples taken from Zdeněk Jirotka's humoristic novel Saturnin.
We particularly focus on to what extent the translators managed to keep the original sense of the puns and to what extent they were forced to sacrifise a particular quality of each pun.
